Meet the team: Mel

So far we've met David and James, now let's meet Mel Sordello from the RMIT Store team who has been away on long service leave for the last two months.

What do you do here at the RMIT Store and how long have you worked here?

Howdy! I am proudly the Senior Coordinator, Retail and Engagement at the RMIT Store. My journey with the Store began back in September 2017 when it was known as the Campus Store. Over the years, I've taken on various roles and responsibilities, culminating in my current position.

In essence, my role revolves around overseeing the Store's operations and fostering connections with the vibrant RMIT community, including staff, students, and alumni. I am committed to providing a distinctive and enriching student experience. One of my key focuses is driving important projects while ensuring strict adherence to essential policies and regulations, such as corporate compliance, sustainability, OH&S, and more.

I must admit, I thoroughly enjoy every aspect of my job, and one of my personal delights is adorning the store windows with creative displays! ;-)

What is your favourite thing you can buy at the store, and why?

I find immense joy in collaborating with students, especially when it comes to their uniquely designed products like the Pixel Sunglasses. These items are crafted with utmost care using top-notch materials, all while working closely with the student designers themselves. It's a truly gratifying experience to be a part of this creative process!

What’s your favourite coffee/ food shop here at RMIT and what is your go-to order?

I have to agree with James and David - College Dropout all the way....great food, well priced and the staff are fantastic (hi Mark!). However, the best coffee is definitely RUSU Realfoods since Lady Casey closed (hi Mark, haha!)

Ah right then, it's time to check out a new coffee spot and maybe grab some new sunnies from the Store ;-)
