Lou Bloomer is another one of the extremely talented RMIT Store designers. She has studied a Cert 4 in Textile Design, Development & Production, an Associate Degree in Fashion, Design & Technology and a Bachelor of Fashion Design. In 2021, Lou won the competition for RMIT’s Indigenous branding design with ‘Leaves of Change’ (Which I know all of you have seen before, it’s amazing!)
Have a read of what Lou is currently up to and her creative process.
What are you currently working on?
Currently, I am working on releasing my first garment collection for the summer of 2024.
What influences your designs?
Nature and my surroundings influence my designs, particularly plants.
What motivates you?
At first thought, I would say food motivates me but in reality, I guess most of my motivation comes from my internal anxiety of not being notable and amazing in this lifetime, to live a mediocre, sub-par life. I think it is a fear I have inherited from my parents.
What is your advice to future designers?
My advice to future designers is to always believe in your design choices, even if you change your mind or direction, you and your creativity are important, and the world would be a boring place if we were all the same. Additionally, in the industry, don't be disheartened by naysayers, the standard system may not be ready for you, create a new way to reach your goals.
What's next for you?
I am not sure what is next for me other than the launch of my label. Anything else that might come across my door will be a nice addition.
We love to collaborate with the talented and unique designers here at RMIT, so keep your eye out for student designs here at the store, or check them out online: https://store.rmit.edu.au/collections/student-designed
