Cycling

Have fun, stay healthy, and make new friends exploring Melbourne with the RMIT Cycling Club.

Formed in 2014, the RMIT Cycling Club is always looking for new members to join in the enjoyment of Cycling. Whether you are a competitive cyclist, a daily commuter, or just a social/recreational cyclist, the RMIT Cycling Club has opportunities for you. It's one thing to enjoy riding alone, but our objective is to allow you to meet a group of other like-minded individuals and enjoy cycling together.

Our purpose is to get you to have fun by riding with others. Whilst it's great to be an amazing cyclist - not all of us are, nor want to be. The smile after a ride, the satisfaction of pushing just a little bit further, the enjoyment of meeting others who you can head out with, the comfort of knowing that there are others out there looking out for you - that's what this club is about. That's what being a truly amazing cyclist involves. There's no competition, no world championship points - just fun. Especially from those endorphins buzzing around from both exercise and making connections with people.

It is our utmost concern that we consider the safety of all of our members, and of any implications that our activities may have on our general population. As a provision for attending our events, we ask that all participants heed recommendations and requirements of the Victorian State Government, RMIT University and Cycling Club committee and ride leaders.

The RMIT Cycling Club is an inclusive non-discriminatory club that welcomes all people of the wide range of cultural, ethnic, religious, gender, sexes and sexual diversities existing in our world. We encourage our members to join together in our enjoyment of cycling whilst respecting and understanding that the differences between us are what make us unique as individuals. The RMIT Cycling Club acknowledges the people of the Woi wurrung and Boon wurrung language groups of the eastern Kulin Nations on whose unceded lands we conduct rides, events and the business of the Club. The RMIT Cycling Club respectfully acknowledges their Ancestors and Elders, past, present and emerging and encourage input from traditional owners and residents so that we may all enjoy the use of their lands. The RMIT Cycling Club also acknowledges the Traditional Custodians and their Ancestors of the lands and waters across Australia where we conduct our activities.

FAQs

When do you ride?

We hold regular social and distance rides every two weeks, and are also planning social events and other activities including participating in some of Melbourne’s iconic cycling events like MS Melbourne Cycle, Great Ocean Ride and Around the Bay in a Day. Furthermore, we will be running our Warburton Camping Trip (and Mt Donna Buang Ride) during the semester 1 mid-sem break and are also looking to host another multi-day trip later in the year.

Social rides for all skill-level riders - First Saturday of the Month 9:30am-12pm.

Distance rides for intermediate-advanced riders - Third Saturday of the Month 9:30am-12pm.

We still have opportunities for interested members to start up something new - get in touch and we'll see what we can do to assist.

Where do you ride?

Usually our rides depart from the City campus (Bld 51 Bike Hub) and cycle the local Melbourne area. Social rides often take place in parts of the CBD and surrounding areas, but we're open to more places. Distance rides also generally depart from the bike hub, but will go a bit further out of the city and may sometimes involve catching a train. Overnight rides may utilise the (regulated-gradient) Lilydale to Warburton Rail trail (with the potential for the die-hards to do a hill-climb up Mt Donna Buang).
